|JP is a long-time activist and organizer, fighting for a better Louisville at protests against police violence, anti-war rallies, direct actions, and standing in solidarity with workers on picket lines. In 2022, he served as campaign manager for Shelby Park resident Robert LeVertis Bell’s campaign for State Representative. Later, JP managed Access For All KY’s “No On 2” campaign, helping defeat Amendment 2’s permanent ban on abortion access in Kentucky. He also served three terms as co-chair of Louisville DSA.
JP is running for Metro Council because he knows a better world is possible. Louisville needs big changes to reverse economic and racial inequality. Louisville needs leaders ready to fight for the working class against budgets that prioritize tax deals for wealthy real estate developers over public transportation and basic infrastructure. JP is ready to fight for you, for District 6, and for the working class across our city.- Louisville needs better public services and infrastructure. We will:
Open a publicly owned grocery store in District 6
Restore and expand TARC for the working class AND the environment
Build safer street infrastructure, including for pedestrians & cyclists, like protected bike lanes to connect the entire urban core
Bring LG&E into local, public ownership so that our utility bills stop paying for shareholder profits and we can stop burning coal for fuel.
We have the money to take care of our people, but we have to organize to reorient the budget to OUR needs! - Louisville needs affordable housing. To meet the demand, we must: Expand and improve our public housing Build new, truly affordable housing Crack down on absentee corporate slumlords End the failed & massively wasteful clearing of houseless camps—$8,000 every time we do it, dozens of times a month! Louisville just passed a corporate tax giveaway worth $114,000,000 for the One Park Development to build luxury, high rise condominiums in the Highlands; they don't need help selling real estate in the Highlands!. The People’s Money should be spent on the People’s Needs!
- Louisville needs to reimagine public health and safety. To do that, we need to: Reallocate some of the 40% of our budget that currently goes to police & jails to actually address root causes of violence Reopen critical youth services like community centers, swimming pools and the Parkland and Shelby Park Libraries Expand underfunded mental health and addiction treatment Fight back against dangerous corporate polluters We’ve doubled what we spend on policing since we merged the city and the county twenty years ago. It’s time to do more than just throw money at LMPD!
