Cameron Henry (Republican Party) is a member of the Louisiana State Senate, representing District 9. He assumed office on January 13, 2020. His current term ends on January 10, 2028.

Henry was elected Louisiana Senate President in 2024.[1] Henry earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Louisiana State University in 1997 and an M.B.A. in finance and management from Tulane University in 2004.[1] While in graduate school, Henry worked as a legislative aide to then state Rep. Steve Scalise (R).[1] Henry also worked as an adjunct professor at Delgado Community College.[2]

Henry represented District 82 in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2008 to 2020. During his time in the House, Henry chaired the House Appropriations committee.[1]

In 2015, Henry ran to be the Louisiana House speaker but withdrew when the race went to a runoff. After withdrawing his candidacy, Henry said, “We realized that there was a section of votes that were difficult for me to go get and this enabled members to comfortably vote for a Republican. It simply had to do with the fact that some members felt that I almost was a little too conservative for the body.”[3][4]

In 2019, Henry was unable to run for re-election in the House due to term limits and was elected to represent District 9 in the Louisiana Senate. He was re-elected in 2023. In 2024, Henry was unanimously elected to serve as Senate President.[1] As president, Henry serves on the Revenue Estimating Conference, which determines how much state and federal revenue can be used on a state budget, as well as on the State Bond Commission, Interim Emergency Board, Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, Joint Capital Outlay, and Legislative Budgetary Control Council. [1]

Henry became Senate President the same year Gov. Jeff Landry (R) assumed office. In a staff editorial at the end of the year, NOLA.com wrote, "Henry played a key role in helping Jeff Landry get some of his proposals over the finish line — and also slowing down, watering down or even killing ideas that he and his Senate colleagues thought went too far. Henry salvaged Landry’s recent tax special session by gathering support for a rise in the state sales tax to offset income tax cuts ... Earlier in the year, he forced Landry to dial back proposals to send public money to private schools and to switch fully from Louisiana’s historic open primaries to partisan primaries."[5]

In an April 2025 interview with the Louisiana Illuminator ahead of the state's 2025 fiscal session, Henry talked about restructuring Louisiana's Department of Transportation, insurance costs, teacher's pay, and federal spending changes during the Trump administration.[6]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Louisiana

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
