James Gresham Barrett (born February 14, 1961) is a former Republican representative in the U.S. Congress from South Carolina. He represented South Carolina's 3rd Congressional District from January 2003 to 2010.

In March 2009, Barrett announced his candidacy for Governor of South Carolina in the 2010 South Carolina gubernatorial election. He emphasized economic development, increased energy production, and education reform. He said he will use most of the $725,000 remaining from his 2008 congressional campaign for the gubernatorial campaign.[1]

Barrett came in second to Nikki Haley in the June 8 primary. However, since she Haley did not get over 50% of the vote, the two faced off in a runoff election held June 22. In the runoff Haley defeated Barrett by a margin of 65% to 35%.
