General: He was unopposed in the general election on November 4, 2014. [3]

Contest of candidacy

Payton filed a contest of candidacy against his opponent, Josiah Stone. His petition stated four reasons that Stone should be disqualified. He claimed that Stone did not have the required four years of experience as a licensed attorney or judge, was not a qualified elector of the 15th Judicial District, and that he didn't use his full, legal name when declaring his candidacy. Stone has also been convicted for filing a false claim for victim compensation, and has had other incidents with the law. There was a hearing for the petition on April 21 at 9:30 a.m. at the Capitol, where it was determined that Stone be removed from the ballot.[4][5]
