Campaign themes

2014

Kennedy's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]

Prop 13

  • Excerpt: "Homeowners need us to defend prop 13. Seniors on a fixed income, our middle class and transitioning Veterans cannot afford increases in their mortgage payments. We are still in a recession and we still have double digit unemployment. If prop 13 goes away, we will see an immediate increase in homelessness, abandoned homes, foreclosures and crime will follow. We must defend prop 13."

Job creation

  • Excerpt: "The first bill I would introduce would be to reform the Calvet home loan so that it is competitive with the federal VA home loan. A simple addition of allowing Veterans to include renovation, remodel and upgrade costs into their Calvet home loan would offer instant economic stimulation in construction, electric, flooring and other areas.

Water

  • Excerpt: "We are not short on water, but Sacramento has created a situation where our farmers and people are running dry. Addressing this needs to be a priority, but it has not. Rather than fixing the problem, we have offered emergency funding time and again, but we remain dry. It is time to explore all options and deliver water to communities like ours that need it!"

Crime

  • Excerpt: "You deserve to have safe streets and it is the state’s responsibility to provide safe streets. We need to build more prisons and keep criminals off our streets. But, while we’re waiting for more prisons to be built, we need to contract with private prisons and put professional, state paid officers in charge of criminals sent to those prisons."

Taxes

  • Excerpt: "We are already taxed too much. California does not have an income problem but we have a spending problem."
