Jack "Gordie" Roop is an at-large representative on the Raleigh County Board of Education in West Virginia. He was elected to his current term on the board in the special election on November 4, 2014.[1] He previously served on the board from 2008 to 2012.[2]

Roop sought another term in the general election on May 10, 2016.[3] He successfully won re-election to his seat.[4]

Two of the five seats on the Raleigh County Schools Board of Education were up for general election on May 10, 2016. In their bids for re-election, incumbents Jack "Gordie" Roop and Richard Snuffer II defeated challengers Lewis Harvey, Amanda Crookshank Kennedy, Marsha Smith, and Russell Webb.[3][4]

Though the election was held at large, only two members from the same geographical district could be on the board during a given term. Snuffer and Smith were from District I, and Roop, Harvey, Kennedy, and Webb were from District II.[3]

One seat on the Raleigh County Schools Board of Education was up for special election on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Linda Polly, who was appointed to replace former member Sally Susman after she resigned from the board due to health reasons in June 2014, ran against challengers Jack "Gordie" Roop, Marsha K. Smith and Steve Finch. Roop, a former member of the board who served from 2008 to 2012, won the election.[3][4]
