Jack Goodman is a judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals Southern District. He assumed office on December 31, 2020. His current term ends on December 31, 2034.

Goodman ran for re-election for judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals Southern District. He won in the retention election on November 8, 2022.

Goodman served as a Republican in the Missouri State Legislature from 2003 until 2013. He represented House District 132 from 2002 until 2005 when he was elected to represent Senate District 29 in a special election. He left office in 2013 following his election as a circuit court judge.[1][2]

Biography

Goodman served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Dade County from 1997 until his election to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2002. Before becoming a judge, Goodman owned a solo law practice in Mount Vernon and worked for the law firm Lathrop and Gage in Springfield.[3]

In 2010, Goodman ran for the U.S. House in Missouri's 7th Congressional District. Incumbent Rep. Roy Blunt did not seek re-election, running instead for the U.S. Senate. Goodman was defeated in the Republican primary by Billy Long (R), who went on to win election to the seat.

Political career

Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District (2020-Present)

Goodman was named to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District, by Gov. Mike Parson (R) on Dec. 23, 2020. Parson selected Goodman from a list of three nominees prepared by the Missouri Appellate Judicial Commission on Dec. 3, 2020.[4] Goodman joined the court on Dec. 31, 2020, following the retirement of Judge Daniel Scott.[3]

Missouri 39th Judicial Circuit Court (2013-2020)

Goodman served as the presiding judge on Missouri's 39th Judicial Circuit Court from 2013 until 2020. He was first elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2018. Goodman left the court in 2020 after Gov. Mike Parson (R) appointed him to serve on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District.[3]

Missouri State Senate (2005-2013)

Goodman represented Missouri State Senate District 29 as a Republican from 2005 until 2013. He was first elected in 2005 in a special election following the death of Sen. Larry "Gene" Taylor (R). He was re-elected in 2008 and left office in 2013 following the end of his term. Goodman was unable to run for re-election to the state Senate in 2012 due to term limits. Goodman served as Assistant Majority Floor Leader until 2011.[1]

Missouri House of Representatives (2003-2005)

Goodman represented Missouri House of Representatives District 132 as a Republican from 2003 until 2005. He was first elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2004. In 2005, Goodman served as Assistant Majority Floor Leader. He left office in 2005 after winning a special election to the Missouri State Senate.

Goodman ran unopposed and was elected to the 39th Circuit Court. He received 100% of the vote in the primary election on August 7, 2012. He took the place of Robert S. Wiley, who retired in 2012.[1]

On November 4, 2008, Goodman won re-election to the 29th District Seat in the Missouri State Senate unopposed.[5]
