To get a recall on the ballot in California, supporters must first serve the officeholder with a notice of intent to recall and file that notice with the relevant election agency. That notice, as well as the recall petition, must be approved for circulation by the election agency. The number of signatures required and the amount of time to collect them varies by the size of the jurisdiction. If enough signatures are verified by the election agency, a recall election is scheduled.[2]
