Two of the five seats on the Putnam County School District school board were up for by-district primary election on August 30, 2016. District 2 and District 3 incumbents David Buckles and Terry Wright ran for re-election to their respective seats. The challenger for the District 2 seat was Jack Helwig, and the challenger for the District 3 seat was newcomer Sandra Gilyard. Buckles was successful in his bid for another term, while Wright lost the seat to Gilyard.[1]
