Jack Hoogendyk
Jack Hoogendyk was a 2012 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 6th Congressional District of Michigan.
Biography
After serving as National Sales and Marketing Manager with a Fortune 500 company, Jack spent seven years as the Executive Director of a faith-based nonprofit organization. In 2000, Jack was elected to the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners. In 2002, he was elected as a representative in the Michigan legislature. Currently, Jack is the Director of the Citizens’ Alliance for Life and Liberty, a 501-c-4 nonprofit with a goal to "defend and protect the God-given right to life, liberty and property."[1]

Hoogendyk ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Michigan's 6th District. He was defeated by incumbent Fred Upton in the August 7, 2012, Republican primary.[2]

Endorsements
On June 26, 2012, Politico reported that the Citizens United Political Victory Fund endorsed Hoogendyk in his primary battle against Fred Upton.
David Bossie, President of Citizens United, said, "Fred Upton has been a member of the Washington establishment for a quarter century, and has become part of the problem. Sweeping fiscal reforms are needed to get our country back on stable ground, and a D.C. insider like Fred Upton is not capable of leading on these issues.” The group is contributing $5,000 to Hoogendyk’s primary campaign.[3]

- Less government means more jobs
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "One of the primary causes of the high unemployment in Michigan and across America is too much government intervention in the private business sector. Our representatives in Washington claim such intervention creates jobs when, in fact just the opposite occurs. Government cannot create jobs. Government can only create an environment for job growth by limiting taxation and regulation."
- State sovereignty and individual rights
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "I will not support legislation that gives the federal government powers which are constitutionally reserved to the states."
- Stronger economy
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "We need a Congress committed to consistent restraint of spending. Consistent, unwavering commitment to government responsibility and fiscal conservatism is absolutely essential."
- Energy policy
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "Energy is essential for businesses and individuals. It is vital to economic stability and national independence. Because of this, the free market must be allowed to develop the most cost-effective, clean sources of energy."
- Strong national defense
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "I believe in a strong national defense. It is one of the primary functions of the federal government enumerated in the Constitution."
- Reducing the size of government
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "A simpler, less bureaucratic system such as the Fair Tax would greatly decrease the tax burden on businesses and citizens, significantly reduce the cost of compliance, and encourage more investment and the creation of new jobs."
- Transparency and accountability
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "America needs representatives who are willing to consistently stand up against the corruption and special interests in Washington, and have a proven track record of being willing to take steps that are hard, and unpopular. This is my record throughout my terms as state representative, including fighting for the first Transparency bill in Michigan."
- Protecting human life
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "Life is a fundamental right. The Declaration of Independence enumerated it as such, and our Constitution clearly states that human life should be protected. Science and medicine have proven that life begins at conception. Therefore, the government should not sanction or fund abortion, embryonic stem cell, or fetal tissue research. I will always vote to protect life."
- Health care
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "There are viable options for reducing the cost of health care, while still giving each American the freedom to decide what is best for them, such as allowing insurance companies to sell across state lines, expanding the use of health savings accounts and allowing individuals to deduct insurance premiums on their tax returns."
- Defending the second amendment
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "As it is a vital safeguard to our liberty, the Second Amendment must be defended as vehemently as the rest of the constitution."
- Education
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "The closer decisions are to the classroom door, the more effective they will be at improving educational quality and cost-effectiveness."
- Property rights
- On his website, Hoogendyk says, "Laws to protect the environment should be observed, and those who violate them should be punished. But at the same time, government must refrain from efforts to affect behavior through excessive regulation or economic incentives. These efforts slow economic development and hinder technological advancement."[4]
