Nickel ran for election to the 15th Judicial District.
Primary: He was defeated in the primary on November 4, 2014, receiving 15.4 percent of the vote. He competed against Burleigh Doga, David M. Smith, and Mike Goss.

Education
Nickel received a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Southern Louisiana in 1987, and a J.D. from Southern University School of Law in 1990.[3]
Career
Nickel has 22 years of experience as a public defender in the 15th Judicial District. He was an associate attorney with Larry C. Dupuis from 1990 to 1992.[3]
