I grew up on “The Key” attending the island’s stellar public schools where her own children subsequently attended. I have been deeply involved in the Miami-Dade soccer community since 1978 including my time as an All-Dade County player at Coral Gables High School and a collegiate career at Guilford College including playing for the Women's National Team of the British Virgin Islands and then as a youth club owner/manager and Soccer Mom. My professional experience spans non-profit organizations in membership, marketing, and development across Washington, DC, Mexico City, Coral Gables, Curacao, and Miami. For the past 20 years, I have led tours for Art Basel although my career is focused on Environmental Education. The proximity to Nature has shaped by life and like my father, a Navy veteran, I love the asea. My mother was the founding Development Director for Planet Ocean, dedicated to Oceanography. In addition to my professional roles, I have served on numerous boards, currently, President of the Key Biscayne Democrat Club, Chair, Friends of Gables High, Key Biscayne Sustainability Advisory Board Past board positions and community activism such as: Planting “Food Forest” gardens in Title 1 public schools, Composting Key Biscayne, Xavier Cortada’s Reclamation Project (mangrove education through Eco-Art). Youth and Education: PTA President, Coral Gables Sr. High School, MDCCC PTA Central Region Coordinator, Girl Scout Leader, Barnacle House Society, Biscayne Nature Center.

Pro-Amendment 4/Reproductive Freedom, affordable healthcare access through the ACA, and expanding Medicare for ALL. Address the homeless epidemic, particularly among teens aged out of foster care, veterans, and the elderly.

Address the issues preventing access to counseling and mental health care.
  • Advocate for public schools, accountability for charter schools, and equitable access and accountability to those accepting school vouchers. Oppose book banning and support Families Against Book Banning (FABB)
  • Combat climate change with comprehensive policies, funding coral reef restoration, protect endangered species, promote renewable energy, support composting, and reduce carbon emissions. Protect marginalized communities from environmental hazards. Advocate for the protection of Biscayne Bay.
Gun safety issues aimed at reducing gun-related violence.

I support Brady United for a Safer America:

Ban the sale of ghost guns kits, which any person can purchase and easily assemble into a fully functioning and untraceable firearm.

Repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) which has been used to shield gun manufacturers from liability.

Take an evidence-based approach to policing reform. Police violence disproportionately and acutely affects communities of color, particularly Black Americans.

Fund community-based violence prevention and intervention programs.

Universal Background Checks

I also support banning assault weapons, horribly, the weapon of choice in schools shootings.
Locally, I admire Sybrina Fulton. Her perseverance in light of profound tragedy and injustice is a light I follow.
The Fifth Freedom. Guaranteeing an Opportunity-Rich Childhood for All. by David J. Erickson
A genuine desire to improve the everyday lives of the people you are elected to represent. Transparency and honesty. Perseverance.
I have strong protective instincts. A like meeting new people. I enjoy conversation and problem solving.
Ethical behavior. Community engagement. Promoting public interest. Translating that into laws and policies that improve the everyday lives of the people you are elected to represent.
Equitable access to Nature.
I was 5 years old and I remember hearing on the radio the words Water Gate. I asked my Father about it and I learned my first swear word.
Ticket taker for Planet Ocean, a museum dedicated to Oceanography. It is now a premier magnet school. I worked most weekends there throughout high school.
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
Balancing passion, activism and family.
The opportunity for negotiation and compromise.
An ideal relationship is constructive and cooperative. This would allow for more effective governance, better policy outcomes, and ultimately, greater benefits for the people they serve.
Climate Change/Sea Level Rise. Salt water intrusion to drinking water. Infrastructure challenges due to salt water. Septic to sewage conversion. Equitable access to Nature.
Yes, it is important to build relationships with other legislators. Florida is a large state
A local historian in my community recently turned 96. She has lived in the same condo by the sea for 50 years. She can not afford to replace her shutters with impact sliding doors and windows. She must sell her apartment and find an apartment to rent. Her daughter said her health is suffering from the stress.
Children’s Bill of Rights, the right to a safe and inclusive school, excellent teachers, and ample resources.
Xavier Cortada, Pending various caucus such as Ruth's List, Florida Rising, DECF
Environment, Education, Public Safety.
Disclosure of Financial Statements.

Establish transparent procurement processes ensures that contracts and bids for goods and services are awarded fairly and competitively.

Public Consultation and Participation; engage citizens in decision-making processes through public consultations, hearings, or advisory panels ensures that government actions reflect public preferences and priorities.
I do not support initiatives that inhibit the right to vote such as Voting By Mail and limiting early voting and drop off locations.
