I am a current resident of Prosser, WA. I am running for City Council POS. 2. I have been going to city council meetings for 18 months now. I am a member of the Rotary Club here in Prosser and have had the opportunity to talk with Chamber of Commerce staff members. I am hearing several ideas of how to make Prosser a family destination city as well as revitalize the Historical Prosser Downtown. What I believe is missing is Inclusion from City Council, Rotary and Chamber of Commerce to each other, transparency and collaboration. Prosser is a great community and would love to be part of the solutions to revitalize Prosser Historical Downtown, provide ideas on how we can achieve the family destination city. This is where the inclusion, collaboration and transparency between City Council, Rotary and Chamber of Commerce would be beneficial. Additionally, how do we grow the Prosser Community with more affordable housing and still keep the Prosser community environment as quaint as it is. Create the Historical Downtown as a designation place along with the many wonderful wineries here in Prosser. Address the family fun times by developing a baseball / Basketball center where tournaments can be held in Prosser. I would like to have a seat at the table to help Project Manage these ideas with the help of the Prosser community input, I believe we can achieve this and much more.
- Create more affordable housing in the Prosser and surrounding communities.
- Revitalization of the Historical Downtown Prosser for family destinations.
- Look for creative ideas to fund the Baseball / Basketball family center. Assist in developing creative fund-raising ideas to the center developed to bring our community together
Affordable housing growth in Prosser area. Look into lowering permit fees to help minimize the total housing cost. As of 2017 to 2024 the growth in Prosser has been 1.14 %. The median income is noted as 77K, the average income is 42K. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the average home in Prosser is 350k to 500K, is that truly affordable? This is creating a situation where multi-generations will need to live together. That means larger homes means bigger price tag.
We as a community need to find solutions to this and I believe start looking into the permitting cost as a start.
Communities make up every state, and how we effectively we collaborate with State requirements, taxing, funding, control of growth of housing, schools, doctors, hospital and safety with proper police policies.
If city leaders are ineffective in budgeting and recognizing the city needs, the entire surroundings are at risk.
Pres. Teddy Rosevelt - he was known for his leadership at the time preserving natural resources, created numerous national parks and forest, focused on conservation, corporate regulations. Fostered many irrigation projects. To this day affects the current area I live. He advocated for Social Justice and human welfare, and property rights. As well as expanded the Naval fleet, won Nobel Peace Prize on an agreement on immigration with Japan.
All of these are still valid to this day and currently at the forefront of Political discussion currently on-going in Washington DC.
In my opinion this country is missing this kind of Leadership Pres. Rosevelt exhibited. Currently reading Prequel by Rachel Maddow "An American fight against fascism" really want to understand how the heck did we get here politically. and Mark Twain by Ron Chernow " I read Mark Twain in school by Samuel Clemens. Both Fascinating reads
First and foremost is integrity, honesty and a willingness to roll up their sleeves and get to work. We must also include our community in finding solutions.
I value teamwork, integrity, honesty and inclusion. I have those skill sets and not afraid to address leadership with grace, humor, and respectful candor.
Listen to the citizens of our community. Be open and honest with what can do with existing budgetary constraints. Include the community is trying to find creative ways to fund-raise, collaborate with Chamber of Commerce and Rotary club. Be transparent about reaching goals.
That I made a difference and was always ready to help where needed.
My first memory of historical event was when President John F Kennedy was assassinated Nov. 1963. I was 6 yrs old in first grade. The school sent us home, and when both my younger brother and I got home, all the neighbors were standing in the street. Some were crying, my brother and I being so young did not understand the gravity of this. We lived in San Diego at the time. I will never forget that as long as I live, my mother and aunt made us stand up and watch the television while this was showing as to what happened to President Kennedy.
I believe this is where my political interest started, and why anyone would think of doing such a thing to our president. Why?
Then Robert Kennedy and his assassination, that is when I knew I wanted to get involved, somehow? That is why in 1975 I made sure I registered to vote, and have voted in every city, state and Presidential races since. As a student in High School, I was part of the "National Youth Corp." in Bremerton, WA. I worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a student clerk in the "Drawing and Drafting Department". I started working the summer prior to 10th grade, and during the school year went to work after class. I worked at the Shipyard until I graduated from High School. Was a great opportunity as well as I did not realize at the time this established my career in quality assurance. When I retired in Sept. 2024, I had been in the quality assurance field for 50 yrs. One doesn't see that kind of dedication in one field anymore. This is what built my foundation in ethics, inclusion, transparency and communication.
I am a strong supporter in getting education not only in universities, as well technical trade school and vocational trade as I did. We need more students to go to Technical Trade or vocational schools, for mechanics, welders, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, builders. These are all trades that pay well and help build communities to help sustain the growth.
I know why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. Was one of her autobiographies. The trials and tribulations she went thru as a child and how she rose above all of the trauma. Ultimately her book "And Still I Rise" is a powerful message of survival and hope in how she overcame adversity and oppression.
This says a lot to present day political issues and concerns with immigration. How the immigrants in our community / country feel and being oppressed, only because of their skin color or heritage.
Marvel Comic Super hero "Storm" Strong, confident, intelligent, caring, loyal and brave. Yep that about sums it up
Well ok I am going there. The wheels on the bus go round and round. Round and Round
I believe our City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary all need to do more with communicating out to our community as a whole. You can ask community members who is the Mayor? Who sits on City Council? What does Chamber of Commerce do for our community? Most will not be able to answer that question. This needs to change in order to meet the goals our Prosser community wants and needs for continued growth.
Well for me this is my first time actually throwing my hat in the ring for City Council. I have always been politically active and voted in all City, State and Presidential primaries. There is something to be said about someone who does not have previous experience, " Fresh Eyes if you will" we see things differently and potentially do not have a main focus on what our prime reason for running @ making our community more walkable, or more shade trees in parks, or more affordable housing, developing family destinations areas.
The flip side of having experience is one understands all the by-laws, city ordinances, restrictions, better understanding of budget constraints. Those requirements are readily at hand and understand the intent of the conversation where one with no previous experience will need to read and interpret what is being stated to have effective input.
I retired this last year from Boeing Commercial Airplane Mfg. My key position was to project manage suppliers' notification of nonconformances that were shipped into Boeing facilities. I believe my experience in project management will be an asset to city council and our community leaders in developing projects the community wants and needs
City Council is an oversight group to meet the needs of the community, aiding the city to keep in line with State and federal guideline.
Why did the scarecrow win an award?
Because he was outstanding in his field
Still working on that one, Prosser Rotary club, Benton County Democratic Caucus
Full transparency is the key to me. As with any business or home for that matter. We have to balance the budget.
