Jackie Portman-Brown
Jackie Portman-Brown was a judge for the 5th Subcircuit of the Cook County Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois. She left office on December 6, 2020.
Portman-Brown (Democratic Party) ran for election for the 5th Subcircuit judge of the Cook County Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois. She lost in the Democratic primary on June 28, 2022.
Biography
Portman-Brown was raised in Chicago, Illinois. She is the youngest of four sisters. Before becoming a judge, Portman-Brown was the general counsel for Chicago's police oversight office. She also has experience as a prosecutor.[1]
Education
Portman earned her J.D. from the Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.[2]
Career
Prior to joining the bench, Portman was general counsel for the Independent Police Review Authority and served seven years as Cook County assistant state's attorney.[2]

Noteworthy events
Administrative duties reassignment
On February 26, 2020, Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans reassigned Portman-Brown to administrative duties.[5] The reassignment occurred after the release of a surveillance video showing Portman-Brown placing a 6-year-old child in a courtroom holding cell.[6]
