My name is Jackie Williamson, and I am a lifelong resident of Illinois. I grew up in the northwest suburbs and now live in Wheaton.

I decided to run after realizing during the primary that there was no democrat running for this seat, and after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. My opponent is anti-choice and has introduced legislation that would remove the requirement for insurance to cover emergency contraceptives.

I am running to ensure that we maintain and improve upon the rights we are losing at the federal level: right to safe and legal abortion and contraceptives, right to safety in our communities and schools, right to an environment free of pollution, equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community, right to vote, right to truthful education, and many others. Please visit my website: www.jackieforil47.com for more information.
  • I work in Human Resources and believe my experience and passion for this field will benefit everyone in the 47th district. I believe in consistency and fairness, have strong ethics, and know the value of working with all stakeholders to achieve success.
  • I believe in the power of active listening and practicing empathy to get to the heart of any challenge, and finding effective solutions.
  • I know how to stick to a budget and will work to continue to lower the state's pension liability, fund public schools, and increase the state credit rating.
Illinois must reinstate the assault weapons ban that was allowed to expire in 2004. I do not believe civilians should have access to high power, high capacity weapons. I believe that any citizen who wants to own a gun should pass a background check that searches for violent offenses nationwide. Further, they should pay insurance for the gun, and pass periodic testing to prove they can operate the gun in a safe manner. These requirements are in place for drivers and car owners, why should we expect less of gun owners?

Everyone in Illinois should have access to safe and legal abortions. Abortion is a medical procedure undertaken by so many in times of need and distress. To politicize it and make it a stigma has led to the misconception that abortions are only done voluntarily, and that is simply not true. I will work to ensure that access in Illinois is maintained and that we have the support necessary for people traveling from out of state to seek care until this right is reaffirmed at the Federal level. I will also ensure Illinoisans continue to have access to affordable contraceptives.

Climate change is real, and is a result of humans’ reliance on fossil fuels. We must continue to transition to sustainable energy sources such as solar and wind power. Electric vehicles are becoming more available and I know EV charging infrastructure is a concern for those who would consider making the transition from gas to electric cars.
