Jackson County Question 1 was on the ballot as a referral in Jackson County on November 4, 2025. It was approved.

A "yes" vote supported amending the Jackson County Charter to make the position of Jackson County Assessor an elected, rather than appointed, office.

A "no" vote opposed amending the Jackson County Charter, thereby keeping the Jackson County Assessor as an appointed position.


A simple majority was required for the approval of Question 1.

Overview

Question 1 amended the Jackson County Charter to make the county assessor an elected rather than an appointed position. In 2026, voters across the state will decide on a constitutional amendment to delete language that exempts charter counties with populations between 600,001 and 699,999 from having an elected assessor.

Ballot title

The ballot title for Question 1 was as follows:

Shall Articles III, IV, and V of the Jackson County Charter, adopted by vote on November 3, 1970, and as amended by public votes on August 8, 1978, April 2, 1985, November 4, 1986, August 2, 1994, August 3, 2010, and November 6, 2018 be amended to require that the Charter Office of the Jackson County Assessor no longer be a qualified appointee and instead be an elected position?

On June 30, 2025, the Jackson County Legislature voted 7-2 to refer Question 1 to the ballot for voters to decide. On July 11, County Executive Frank White Jr. (D) vetoed the resolution. On July 18, the legislature voted 7-2 to override the executive's veto. At least six votes were needed for the override.[1]
