Jackson County School District is located in southeast Mississippi in Jackson County. The county seat is Pascagoula. This county was home to 141,137 residents in 2014, according to an estimate by the United States Census Bureau.[4] In the 2011-2012 school year, Jackson County School District was the sixth-largest school district in Mississippi and served 9,357 students.[5]
Demographics
Jackson County underperformed the rest of Mississippi in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 19.6 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 20.1 percent for Mississippi as a whole. Voter and candidate information
The Jackson County School Board is a five-member board elected by district to six-year terms. There was no primary election and the general election for the District 5 seat was scheduled for November 3, 2015.[7]
Individuals interested in running for the board began circulating nominating petitions on August 5, 2015. The filing deadline for the 2015 general election was September 4, 2015.[2]
