Jackson County gets two new judges

Jackson County, Oregon: Gov. Kulongoski has appointed two new judges to the Jackson County Circuit Court in Oregon: judge pro tem and municipal attorney, Benjamin Bloom and Southern Oregon public school districts attorney Timothy Gerking. These two nominees were chosen from among 20 candidates to replace the recently retired judges Mark Schiveley and Raymond White. Bloom will replace Schiveley and Gerking will replace White once sworn in on January 7, 2011.
Bloom, 44, is currently a partner at the firm of Hornecker, Cowling, Hassen & Heysell, where he has practiced since 1993. Also, for the past five years, he has served as a judge pro tem. "I thought I could work well in the process because of my temperament, and I wanted to give back to the community," he said.
Gerking, 61, is currently a partner with the firm of rophy, Schmor, Gerking, Brophy, Paradis & Maddox. He has practiced law since 1974, starting in Arizona and then moving to Oregon in 1979. He is the regular counsel for the public school districts of Southern Oregon. Of the new appointment, he said it is "the crowning achievement in my career."[1]
