Four of the seven seats on the Tippecanoe School Corporation school board were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. District 4 was the only contested seat, with incumbent James Slaven losing his seat on the board to challenger Jacob Burton. Districts 5, 6, and 7 were all unopposed. Incumbents Jane Smith, Brian DeFreese, and Steven Chidalek filed for the seats, respectively, and all three won additional terms. There was no primary.[1][2][3]

Funding
Burton reported $5,377 in contributions and $1,259.30 in expenditures to the Tippecanoe County Board of Elections, leaving his campaign with $4,117.70 cash on hand as of October 26, 2016.[4]
School board candidates in Indiana who received more than $500 in contributions or made more than $500 in expenditures had to have a principal committee. This committee was designated by a candidate to accept contributions and make expenditures to promote him or her for the election.
