Jacob Hagopian
Jacob Hagopian was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. He was first appointed as a magistrate judge in 1971 and was later recalled into judicial service in 1995. Judge Hagopian retired from judicial service in 2013.[1]
Early life and education
Jacob Hagopian was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on July 3, 1927. He earned an A.B. degree from George Washington University in 1957 and went on to earn his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and Washington College of Law in 1960. He was admitted to practice law in Virginia in 1961 and Rhode Island in 1964.[1]
Professional career
Hagopian served in the Army from 1944 to 1970. From 1964 to 1968, he served in the Judge Advocate General's office. He was an appellate judge with the U.S. Court of Military Review from 1967-70. He was then appointed magistrate judge in 1971. He taught at the Roger Williams University School of Law for 17 years. He also worked as a consultant to the Rhode Island Commission to Reform Criminal Procedures and taught at Suffolk University, American University, the University of Rhode Island, and the U.S. Naval War College.[1][2]
