Jacob Larger is running for Ohio House District 84 to bring common sense, conservative values to Columbus. Currently the Village Council President in New Bremen, Jacob has over a decade of experience getting things done at the local, state and national levels, from being an advocate for small-business owners, to reforming Ohio’s workforce system to better match job seekers to local employers. An attorney by education, Jacob currently serves as the Human Resources & Adult Protective Services Administrator at a local Job & Family Services agency. Jacob and his wife Maria have three beautiful daughters, Cecelia, Gwendolyn and Vivian.
  • Putting People Back to Work: We currently are in a workforce crisis in this country. As someone who has worked nearly a decade in workforce development, I know we can build on existing state resources to create a pipeline to meet the needs of our state’s job creators.
  • Being 100% Pro-Life: As a devout Catholic, being pro-life—from conception to natural death—is more than a campaign slogan. Ohio should be a leader not only in protecting life in the womb, but also in creating pathways for adoption and assisting foster children as they age out of the state system.
  • Cutting Government Red Tape: Businesses and individuals cannot prosper with the weight of government deciding who and what is essential. Small businesses in particular are the backbone of the American economy, and Ohio needs to do more to reduce overburdensome regulations.
As you can see in my key messages, I am personally passionate about protecting life, getting people into the workforce, and reducing the regulatory burdens on individuals and businesses. Our constitution guarantees us the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and government leaders should ensure the protection of thes inalienable rights. And from a workforce perspective, a rising tide lifts all boats, and by helping individuals find self-sufficiency through employment will spur economic growth and make Ohio the best place in the nation to live, to work, and to raise our families.
Integrity. Nothing is more important than doing what you say you will do.
My first job was pulling weeds for my neighbor when I was young. She paid me 1 cent per weed to start, and I'll never forget the lessons learned regarding the value of hard work and that if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing right. As I have grown in my leadership, this first job echoed when I first heard the words of the legendary John Wooden, that "If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over."
I love leadership books, so it's hard to narrow it to just one. I would say "Fortitude" by Congressman Dan Crenshaw has definitely been one I quote quite often, but "Good to Great" by Jim Collins has to be foundational to anyone looking to expand their leadership knowledge. I also would recommend just about anything from Patrick Lencioni.
I'd say my strong sense of duty definitely leans more toward Captain America, so if I had to say which fictional character I'm most like, I'd pick him. But if I could choose any, I've always loved Spiderman. He may have superpowers, but he also is just a really smart guy who cares deeply for his friends and family.
I do not want to become a career politician. I am running to be a State Representative. If God places it on my heart to pursue higher office, I will evaluate that office at that time, but I believe candidates who seek office as a stepping stone for the future do a disservice to the people they represent.
What did the ocean say to the beach? Nothing, it just waved. (I have three young daughters, and am the master of Dad Jokes)
I believe in advancing good public policy as far as the political conditions allow, and sometimes compromise is a part of that process. I've always likened this to a football analogy. Don't try to throw the Hail Mary pass every time, if the defense is showing you 15 yards. Take the 15 yards, line up again, and keep advancing. We shouldn't allow the perfect be a barrier to the excellent.
