Jacob A. Walker III is the Place 1 Republican judge of 37th Circuit Court in Alabama. Walker won re-election in the general election on November 8, 2016.[1]

Biography

Walker earned his B.A. from the University of the South and his J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law. He was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1985.

Judge Walker presided over the capital murder case of Courtney Lockhart, who was convicted of murdering Auburn University freshman Lauren A. Burk. Despite the jury's recommended sentence of life in prison, Walker sentenced Lockhart to die by lethal injection. This ruling sparked controversy over the Alabama law permitting judges to overrule jury sentences.[4]
