Jacqueline D. Williams is a judge of the New York City Civil Court in Kings County, New York. She has served in this position since 2007, following her election.[1] Williams won re-election in the general election on November 8, 2016.

Biography

Williams received her B.A. from Yale University in 1985 and her J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1988. Williams worked as a law secretary to a supreme court justice prior to her election to the civil court in 2006. She took office as a civil court judge in 2007.[1][2]

Judges of the New York City Civil Court are each elected to 10-year terms in partisan contested elections, with one exception. Judges of the New York City Housing Court are appointed by the Chief Administrative Judge and serve five-year terms. To serve on this court, a judge must be a state and city resident, at least 18 years old and practice in the state for 10 years. This court has a mandatory retirement age of 70 years old.[4]
