I am a lifelong resident of this District. I have worked directly with many of the residents and visitors of the District. I am not afraid of standing up for what is right. I am personally connected to the District. I am not going anywhere. I am here to help eradicate business as usual at City Hall. We need to talk about, discover, agree to, and implement solutions that will accommodate everyone. What is needed for San Francisco is leadership that is not part of a political machine. District 9 needs leadership that has lived in District 9 for decades. Not leadership that moves here, runs for office funded by a political machine, and then leaves. I have been here all my life.
  • Public Safety: We are living in an era where crime is rampant and this is having an adverse affect on how people are living. Addiction and mental health should be made a priority issue. Also the Police need to be seen as people that care about the public they serve.
  • Community Building: Many persons are isolated because of age or possibly addiction and mental health issues. I firmly believe that nobody should be left behind. People in this district should get to know their neighbors and develop a lost sense of pride that comes from people getting to know and respect the people around them.
  • Housing: A shortage of housing and incredible rents dampen our mood. We need a two pronged effort to address housing. (New construction will be needed but this is a long term solution and we need a solution now.) Therefore, we must provide rental assistance to workers until housing becomes available.( Affordable housing appears great but it falls short of what is needed. Furthermore, construction costs reduce how many units can actually be produced.)
I want the city and the district to return from the economic downturn created by the pandemic and for the city to return to a great place to visit.
I've always looked up to school teachers because they've always throughout my entire schooling from Kindergarten through University have always let me know that I've been important and that anything is possible if you set a goal and work hard to achieve it. I just reconnected with a middle school gym / history teacher named Ray Ponce who was definitely one of those teachers and I was able to meet him again almost 45 years later and tell him what he meant to me. It was very emotional and I get emotional whenever I think of someone like him that mattered in my life. There were many.
I have been to hell and survived and made a decent life for myself. That experience has made me uniquely qualified to handle this job and I firmly believe that I would make an excellent city supervisor. I would not be running if I did not believe that. I am not in it for ego enhancement or anything other than to serve my community so that they can have the life I have or better.
Somebody who is able to communicate effectively and is able to build harmony amongst people that normally would not mix.
That politics and living in this town is not about hooray for me and F you. It is about compassion, understanding, and caring about the people and the world around you. I do not have all the answer for every issue but I know that I can get people together to live in the solution and not the problem.
I can remember the day that Harvey Milk and George Moscone were shot by Dan White. Dan White had a Baked Potato Food business at the Pier 39 food court next to the arcade. I was shocked to know that he let his resentments against his coworkers get the best of him.
I was a paperboy for the San Francisco Newspaper Agency from age 9 until age 17. I worked for both the SF Chronicle and Examiner. I had a route and was also a District helper. This not only instilled in me a work ethic but allowed me to make my own money and gave me a sense of responsibility. I would do a route before school and during some of those years I had a route in the afternoon as well. I enjoyed serving my customers and would always show up to work regardless of how I felt physically or emotionally.
Frank Pembleton from the TV show Homicide Life on the Street. One hell of a smart man who's character was oh so complex and sensitive but more vicious than a pit bull dog with a rope toy.
Addiction almost incarcerated me for a long time. I had a moment of clarity where I was able to accept the truth about myself and the situation and turn things around. I have helped many people turn their lives around and I firmly believe that becoming a city Supervisor is that ability at the next level. I would be helping others and in doing that I will be helping myself. It's called being selfless not selfish.
What's the difference between and mosquito and an alcoholic. A mosquito will stop drinking if you slap it.
