Acklin's website highlighted the following campaign themes:
“ | Agriculture
The 102nd District contains some of the most fertile farmland in the world. As State Representative, Jim will fight against over-burdensome regulations which make it harder for Illinois farmers to feed the world. Jim will work to promote and expand agribusiness to help expand markets for the crops and livestock our farmers produce. Education As a public school teacher and administrator for over 35 years, Jim knows the value our public schools bring to our communities. As State Representative, Jim will fight to prioritize state spending on educating our children. He also plans to make funding for the University of Illinois a top priority, as it is the economic engine of Champaign County and the whole state. Fiscal Responsibility In recent years, state government has taken in record income tax receipts. But instead of using the new revenue to pay down debt and get the state’s finances under control, politicians in Springfield greatly expanded state spending. As an administrator who balanced budgets, Jim will bring his expertise in managing our dollars to the Statehouse to rein in spending and make government more efficient. Gun Rights Jim is a strong supporter of our Second Amendment rights and holds a concealed carry permit. He will defend the rights of law abiding gun owners against attacks from Chicago politicians and will work to defeat any efforts to limit the rights of responsible gun owners and sportsmen. Independent Leadership As State Representative, Jim will not be beholden to any special interest or political benefactor. He’ll cast independent votes and work on policies that benefit taxpayers, students, job creators, and those in need of a true safety net.[10][11] |
