James B. Stewart
James B. Stewart was the chief judge of the Ninth Circuit Court of Illinois.[1] He was appointed to the court by the Illinois Supreme Court and took office on January 1, 1996. He was appointed chief judge in October of 2012, effective December 1, 2012.[2]
Stewart was retained on November 4, 2014, for a term that was set to expire on December 6, 2020.[3] However, he retired from office on October 1, 2015.[4]

Stewart was retained to the Ninth Circuit Court with 83.1 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [3]
Evaluations
The Illinois State Bar Association and participating attorneys rated James B. Stewart as Recommended for retention in a 2014 poll.[5]
Education
Stewart earned his J.D. from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas in 1978.[2]
Career
From 1986 until his circuit court appointment in 1996, Stewart was an associate judge for the Ninth Circuit Court. Prior to becoming a judge, he worked as a member of Peel, Henning, Mathers and McKee, a law firm in Galesburg, Illinois.[2]
