James Bailey
James Bailey was the West Virginia Secretary of Commerce. Bailey assumed office on December 7, 2022. Bailey left office on October 18, 2024.
Gov. Jim Justice (R) appointed Bailey acting secretary of commerce on July 14, 2022, to replace Ed Gaunch. Justice appointed Bailey permanent secretary on December 7, 2022.[1]
Biography
James Bailey earned a B.S. and a J.D. from West Virginia University in 2009 and 2012, respectively. Bailey's career experience includes working as a deputy secretary and general counsel with the West Virginia Department of Commerce, counsel to the president of the West Virginia Senate, and senior counsel for policy and legislation with the Office of the West Virginia Governor.[2]

Bailey was appointed West Virginia Secretary of Commerce by Governor Jim Justice (R) on July 14, 2022, and took office July 16, 2022.[3] Justice appointed Bailey permanent secretary on December 7, 2022.[1]
