|I spent my first 18 years on the family dairy farm in central Ohio, and my family is still involved in agriculture. I received geology degrees from The Ohio State University and The University of Iowa before accepting a position at Texas Tech University. At Texas Tech I taught geology to undergraduates and supervised the research projects of graduate students who have pursued carers in the petroleum industry, higher education, and at state and federal agencies. I served as Chair of the Department of Geosciences and directed the geology field camp program in Colorado for four years. I participated in several programs to enhance the science background of K-12 teachers.
