James C. Hankinson

James "Jimmy" C. Hankinson was a judge of the Second Circuit Court of Florida. He assumed office on January 3, 2002.[1][2] Hankinson retired on June 30, 2020.[3]
Hankinson was up for election in 2010 and 2016. No other candidates filed for the primary races either year, which were to be held on August 24, 2010, and August 30, 2016. The unopposed elections were canceled, and Hankinson was automatically re-elected.
Biography
Hankinson received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College and his J.D. degree from Florida State University in 1978.[1]
Hankinson began his career in January 1979 as an assistant state attorney, first for the First Judicial Circuit (1979-1981), then for the Second Judicial Circuit (1981-1991). He became an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Florida in March of 1991. In May of 2000, he became chief assistant U.S. attorney, a position he held until he joined the circuit court in January of 2002.[1]
Elections
2016
Florida's 20 circuit courts all had seats up for election in 2016. Of the 151 seats up for election, 125 saw only one candidate file for the election. The unopposed races were canceled and the sole candidates were automatically elected. Of the 26 opposed races, only 10 saw more than two candidates file. [4]
