James D. Sloan was a judge for the 20th Circuit Court in Florida.[1] He was appointed to the court by Governor Rick Scott on July 1, 2014, and assumed office on September 1, 2014. His most recent term expired in 2016.[2]

Prior to his appointment to the 20th Circuit Court, Sloan served as a county judge for the Hendry County Court in Florida. He was appointed to this position by Governor Lawton Chiles in 1992 to replace Broward Parsons.[3]

Education

Sloan received an A.A. degree from St. Petersburg Junior College in 1975, a B.A. degree in political science from the University of South Florida in 1977, and his J.D. degree from the Stetson College of Law in 1981.[3]

Career

Sloan began his career as a private practice attorney in Altamonte Springs and as a program attorney for the guardian ad litem program. He then worked as a partner at the firm of Rowlee and Sloan from 1983 to 1984, practiced with Luckey, Elver & Sloan from 1984 to 1989, and practiced with Elver and Sloan from 1989 to May of 1992. He was then appointed to the Hendry County Court in 1992.[3]

2012 election

Sloan was unopposed and automatically re-elected to the Hendry County Court following the November 6, 2012, general election.[4][5]
