Devine is a former Republican member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Rockingham 4 from 2006 to 2016. Devine was defeated in the primary election held on September 13, 2016.
Biography
Devine earned his B.A. from Saint Anselm's College. Now retired, his professional experience includes 30 years with the United States Treasury. He was a member and chair of the Timberlaine School Board.

2017
A special election for the position of New Hampshire House of Representatives District Rockingham 4 was called for September 26, 2017. A primary election was held on August 8, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 16, 2017.[1]
The seat became vacant on May 6, 2017, after William Polewarczyk (R) died from cancer.[2]
Kari Lerner was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Former state Rep. James Headd defeated former state Rep. James Devine and Anthony Rossignol in the Republican primary. James Jarvis ran as a Libertarian candidate. Lerner defeated Headd and Jarvis in the special election.[3]

Elections for the New Hampshire House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on September 9, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 13, 2014. Two candidates were unopposed in the Democratic primary, while nine candidates faced off in the Republican primary.[8] The general election was contested by two Democrats and five Republicans. The Democrats were Charlotte Lister and Stephen D'Angelo. The Republicans participants were William M. Gannon, Jason Osborne, Chris True, incumbent Joseph Hagan, and incumbent James Devine. All five Republicans were victorious over the Democrats in the general election.[9]

Devine won re-election in the 2012 election for New Hampshire House of Representatives, Rockingham 4. Devine advanced past the September 11 primary and won re-election in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[10][11]
2010
On November 2, 2010, Devine won election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives.[12][13]
Devine advanced past the September 14 primary election. She faced incumbent Gene Charron (R), incumbent Joseph Hagan (R), incumbent Elisabeth Sanders (R), Charlotte Lister (D), Gertrud Nugent (D), Jenna Gawne (D), and George Manos (D) in the November 2 general election.
2008
On November 4, 2008, Devine won re-election by finishing second out of seven candidates for the four-seat Rockingham 7 District of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, receiving 3,884 votes.[14]
