James Edward Welsh

James Edward Welsh was a judge on the Western District of the Missouri Court of Appeals. He was appointed to this court by Republican Governor Matt Blunt in 2007 and took the bench on November 5, 2007.[1] Welsh retired in March 2018.[2]
Education
Judge Welsh was born on May 26, 1948 in Brookfield, Missouri. He earned his bachelor's degree in aeronautics from St. Louis University, Parks College of Engineering, Aviation, and Technology in 1969 and his J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law in 1975.[1]
Career
After working with McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Co. for about six years, Judge Welsh became a law clerk to William Turnage of the Missouri Court of Appeals. In 1976, he joined the firm Knipmeyer, McCann, Fish & Smith and worked as a trial lawyer until 1985. From 1983 to 1985, he worked as a municipal judge for the City of Liberty. He joined the circuit court of Clay County (7th Judicial Circuit) in 1985, working first as an associate judge and then as a circuit judge in 1988. He held this position until his appointment to the court of appeals in 2007.[1]

Welsh stood for retention on November 2, 2010 and was retained with 66.6% of the vote.[3]
