James Eyler
James R. Eyler was a judge on the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, the intermediate appellate court for the state of Maryland. He took office on January 9, 1996[1] and was retained by voters in 2006[2] to another 10-year term. Eyler retired from the court on May 1, 2012, a few months before he would have had to step down due to mandatory retirement.[3]
Education
Judge Eyler was born on July 13, 1942 in Carroll County, Maryland. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Maryland in 1964 and his LL.B. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1967.[1]
Career
Judge Eyler began his legal career in 1967 working as a law clerk for Judge William R. Horney of the Court of Appeals. In 1968, he joined the law firm Miles & Stockbridge. He became a partner of this firm in 1973 and the Chair in 1992. He has also taught at the University of Baltimore and the University of Maryland law schools.[1]
