James Fannin
James Fannin (Republican Party) was a member of the Louisiana State Senate, representing District 35. Fannin assumed office on January 11, 2016. Fannin left office on January 13, 2020.
Fannin (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the Louisiana State Senate to represent District 35. Fannin lost in the general election on November 16, 2019.
He was first elected to the chamber in 2015.
Fannin is a former Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, representing District 13 from 2003 to 2016.
Fannin was elected to the Jackson Parish School Board in the 1980s and to the Jackson Parish Police Jury in the 1990s.[1]
Party switch
On July 11, 2013, Fannin switched his affiliation from Democratic to Republican, citing his belief that the Democratic Party no longer represents his or his constituents' views on marriage, gun rights, and abortion.[2]
Biography
Fannin (b. May 30, 1949) earned his B.S. in agriculture education from Louisiana Tech University. His professional experience includes operating a building construction business and Fannin Farm Supply in Jackson Parrish. He served in the Louisiana National Guard for seven years.[1]

Elections for the Louisiana State Senate took place in 2015. A primary election was held on October 24, 2015, with a general election held in districts where necessary on November 21, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was September 10, 2015, at 4:30 p.m. CDT.[3]

On October 22, 2011, Fannin won re-election to District 61 of the Louisiana House of Representatives. He ran unopposed in the October 22 primary election, assuring his re-election.[6]
