James G. Tunison
James G. Tunison Jr. is a judge for the Southern Judicial District of the 2nd Superior Court District in Georgia. He was elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2012 and 2016.
Biography
Tunison received his undergraduate degree from Valdosta State University and his J.D. from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1988 and worked as an attorney in private practice from then until his election as judge in 2008.[1][2][1]
Elections
2016
Georgia held elections for local judicial offices—some of which are partisan, others of which are nonpartisan—in 2016. On May 24, 2016, regions across the state held primaries for the partisan races and general elections for the nonpartisan races. Runoff races for both the partisan primaries and the nonpartisan general elections were held on July 26, 2016. The general election for partisan races took place on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was March 11, 2016.[3]
Incumbent James G. Tunison ran unopposed in the general election for one of 11 seats up for election on the 2nd District of the Georgia Superior Court.

Tunison ran unopposed for re-election to the Southern Superior Court Circuit. He was re-elected after receiving 99.8 percent of the vote on July 31, 2012.[4][5]
2008
Tunison defeated Gregory Voyles to become a judge of the Southern Superior Court Circuit, garnering 55 percent of the vote.[2]
