An effort to recall James Hightower from his position as mayor of Benton Harbor, Michigan, was launched in August 2012.[1] The recall effort did not result in a recall election.
Background
Benton Harbor City Commissioner Dennis Knowles filed five separate recall petitions against Hightower, and at a clarity hearing on August 13, Knowles was given approval to circulate two of the original five petitions. Knowles needed to choose one of the petitions to circulate. Recall organizers had 90 days to gather 393 signatures.[1] A recall election did not take place.
