James A. Knecht is a judge on the Illinois Fourth District Appellate Court. He was first elected to this position in 1986, effective December 1.[1] He was retained in 2006 and most recently retained in 2016 for a term that began on December 5, 2016, and ends on December 6, 2026.[2]
Education
Judge Knecht attended Illinois State University and received his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1973.[1]
Career
Judge Knecht began his career in 1973 as a law clerk for Judge Underwood of the Illinois Supreme Court. In 1975, he became an associate circuit judge. He was promoted to circuit judge in 1978 and worked in this capacity until his election to the appellate court in 1986.[1]
