James Kurt Kersten was a judge of the Michigan 33rd District Court. He left office on February 28, 2021.

Kersten ran for re-election for judge of the Michigan 33rd District Court. He won in the general election on November 3, 2020.

Kersten was the chief judge for the 33rd District Court.[1] Kersten was first elected to the court in 1996 and was re-elected in 2002 and 2008. Kersten has served as chief judge from 2000 to 2004 and was re-appointed chief judge in 2010.[2] On November 4, 2014, Kersten was re-elected unopposed for another six-year term.[3] 

Kersten retired on February 28, 2021.[4]

Kersten received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in 1977 and his J.D. degree from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University in 1980.[2]
