James Latham was a candidate for Place 4 representative on the Garland Independent School District Board of Trustees in Texas. The general election was held on May 7, 2016. Latham was defeated in the general election.[1]

Latham is an economics professor at Collin College. He has experience working in research as well. Latham obtained a bachelor's degree in political science from Texas A&M University. He went on to earn a master's degree in economics and a doctorate degree in political economy from the University of Texas at Dallas.[2]

Four of the seven seats on the Garland Independent School District school board were up for general election on May 7, 2016. Places 1, 2 and 3 were up for their regularly scheduled election. The election for Place 4 was a special election to fill the seat left by the resignation of Cindy Castañeda.[3]

Place 1 incumbent Larry Glick ran unopposed. Place 2 incumbent Charles Axe faced challengers Robert McAngus and Johnny Beach. Incumbent Linda Griffin faced Jody Luna for the Place 3 seat. The special election for Place 4 included candidates Jed Reed, Jose Flores, Wes Johnson and James Latham.[3] Glick, Beach, and Reed all won their election bids for the Garland ISD board.[4]
