James J. Marchiano was the presiding justice on the First District, Division One of the California Courts of Appeal. He was appointed to the court as an Associate Justice on September 2, 1998, and retained by the voters for a 12-year term on November 7, 2006. On January 25, 2002, Marchiano was confirmed as Presiding Justice of Division One. He retired from the bench on March 15, 2013.[1][2]

Education

Justice Marchiano received his undergraduate degree from St. Patrick's College in 1965 and his J.D. from the University of California, Boalt Hall in 1969.[3]

Career

From 1970 to 1988, Marchiano partnered in law firms in San Francisco and Oakland, California, with a focus in civil litigation.

Marchiano's previous judicial experience includes an appointment to the Contra Costa County Superior Court, where he served from 1988 until his appointment to the First District Court of Appeals.[3]
