James McClelland
James McClelland was a judge for the 16th Judicial District, Division D in Louisiana. He was elected to the court in 2008 and assumed office on January 1, 2009.[1][2] He was re-elected in 2014.[3] McClelland passed away on March 15, 2015.[4]
Education
McClelland received a B.S. in chemical engineering from Louisiana State University in 1969 and his MBA from the same school in 1971. He later received his J.D. from the Louisiana State University Law School in 1975.[1]
Military service
McClelland served in the Army ROTC during college and was on active duty after graduate school. He was later transferred to the reserves, from which he was honorably discharged in 1979.[1]
Career
McClelland began his career in 1975 as a private practice lawyer with the firm of Aycock, Horne & Coleman (where he became a partner in 1978) and as a public defender. He left his public defender position in 1981 to become an assistant district attorney in the 16th Judicial District. He worked in that capacity until he was elected to the district court in 2008.[1]

As an unopposed candidate, he was automatically re-elected without appearing on the ballot.
