James McGlynn is a senior judge of the Second District of Iowa. He joined the court as an associate justice in 1999, and was appointed to district court judge in November 2012 by then-Governor Terry Branstad.[1] He was retained in 2014 for a term that would expire on December 31, 2020.[2] He retired from the Court in September 2020 and assumed senior status.[3]

McGlynn was retained on November 2, 2010, with 67.12% of the vote.[4][5]
Education
McGlynn received his undergraduate degree from Drake University in 1972 and his J.D. from the Creighton University School of Law in 1975.[6]
Career
McGlynn was a private practice lawyer from 1975 until his judicial appointment in 1999. During this time he served in various positions such as assistant county attorney and judicial magistrate for Kossuth County, and as an assistant Webster County attorney.[6] He was appointed an associate juvenile judge in 1999.[6] He was retained for this position on November 2, 2010, to a six-year term, but was appointed to a higher judgeship before the end of his term.[4]
