James P. Griffin (Hawaii)
James P. Griffin was the Hawaii Public Utilities Commissioner. Griffin assumed office in 2017. Griffin left office on June 30, 2022.
Griffin was appointed to the commission in May 2017. He became the chair in January 2019.[1][2]
Biography
Prior to his appointment, Griffin was a faculty member at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute. His professional experience includes working as a policy analyst at the RAND Corporation and as a legislative analyst in the Hawaii State Legislature. Griffin served as chief of policy and research for the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission from 2012 to 2016.[1]

Griffin served as a member of the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission from June 5, 2017, to July 1, 2022.[3] On January 8, 2019, Gov. David Ige (D) appointed Griffin as chair of the commission.[2]

2017
Griffin was appointed to the commission by Gov. David Ige (D) in May 2017.[1] He assumed office on June 5, 2017, and replaced former Commissioner Thomas Gorak, whose nomination was not approved by the Hawaii State Senate. [4] Griffin was confirmed by the state Senate on August 31, 2017.[5]
