James R. Barber, III
James R. Barber, III is an at-large judge of the South Carolina Circuit Courts.[1] He was elected to the court by the South Carolina General Assembly and assumed office in July 1997.[2] He was re-elected on February 4, 2015, to a term that expires in 2021.[3]
Education
Barber received his undergraduate degree in 1966 and his J.D. in 1969 from the University of South Carolina.[4]
Career
Prior to joining the court, Barber worked at various law firms including Marchant, Bates, Todd and Barber (later Todd and Barber, P.C.) and The Law Firm of Henry H. Edens. He has also worked at the United States Department of Justice in Washington D.C. in the Internal Security Division department and served on the Richland County Council from 1977 to 1986.[4]
