James R. Michie, Jr.

James R. Michie, Jr. was a Utah Third Judicial District judge for Salt Lake County, Utah for the Courthouse of West Jordan of the Third District Juvenile.[1] Judge Michie was appointed to this position in October 2006 by Governor Jon Huntsman.[2]
Michie won a retention election on November 8, 2016.[3]
Michie retired from the court effective April 1, 2021.[4]
Biography
Michie earned his B.A. in political science from the University of Utah in 1986 and his J.D. from the University of Utah College of Law in 1989.[2] Michie worked as an associate attorney for the firm of Ballard, Spahr, Andrews & Ingersoll, where he practiced in the area of public finance. He then served as a Guardian ad Litem from 1999 until 2006.[2]

Utah held retention elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for sitting judges seeking retention was April 15, 2016. James R. Michie, Jr. was retained in the Utah 3rd District Juvenile Court (Michie Seat) election with 75.58 percent of the vote. [3]
