James S. Simpson is the chairman of Victory Worldwide transportation, a former commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation, and a former head of the Federal Transit Administration.[1]

Simpson earned a bachelor's degree from St. John's University in managerial science and economics.[3]
Trucking career
In the 1970s, Simpson started his career in transportation as a driver, packer, and van foreman for Victory Worldwide Transportation, a moving company. He worked there in order to pay tuition for St. John's University.[1] After graduating from St. John's, he became a national account sales manager, partner, and eventually the sole owner of the company.[4]

Career in government
In 1992, Simpson was appointed to the New York Financial Control Board as a non-voting member. He was appointed by City Council Minority Leader Fred Cerullo.[5]
Simpson was later appointed to the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in 1995 by then-governor of New York, George Pataki. He served with the MTA until 2005.[5]
In 2005, Simpson was appointed by President George W. Bush to be the administrator of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). As the FTA administrator, Simpson was responsible for national public transportation, working with congress, approving funding for transportation-related infrastructure projects, and overseeing a $10 billion budget, employees, and contractors. He served in that capacity until 2009.[4][6]
In 2010, Simpson was appointed by Governor Chris Christie to be the commissioner of Transportation for the State of New Jersey. He served until 2014, when he returned to play an active role in Victory Worldwide.[4]
