James Keith Singelton, Jr. is a federal district judge for the United States District Court for the District of Alaska. He joined the court in 1990 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Singleton is serving on senior status.[1]

Early life and education

A native of California, Singleton graduated from the University of California-Berkeley with his bachelor's degree in 1961 and later graduated from the University of California-Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law with his Law degree in 1964.[1]

Professional career

Singleton was a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Alaska in 1963 and from 1965 to 1970. Singleton started his judicial career as a judge in the Alaska Superior Court from 1970 to 1980 then became a judge for the Alaska Court of Appeals from 1980 to 1990.[1]

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Ted Stevens and Frank Murkowski, Sedwick was nominated by President George Bush on January 24, 1990, to a seat vacated by Judge James Martin Fitzgerald as Fitzgerald assumed senior status. Singleton was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 11, 1990, and received commission on May 14, 1990.[2] Singleton served as the Chief Judge of the Court from 1995 to 2002 before assuming senior status on January 27, 2005.[1] Singleton was succeeded in this position by Judge Timothy Burgess.
