I am a patent and corporate attorney licensed in multiple jurisdictions, with a PhD, a master’s degree, two bachelor’s degrees, two levels of Chartered Financial Analyst training, and a deep understanding of finance, accounting, and employment matters. I’ve lived in Kerr County for 8 years, have family that have been ranching this community for the past 20 years, and my wife and I saved and are restoring the historic Scofield School. I grew up in a rural mining community, fishing, camping, and riding horses, and have always had small town Christian conservative values.

I believe it is extremely important for the County Judge to be well versed in the law, statutory construction, and ethics. As an attorney in good standing in Texas, my primary legal field is asset protection, corporate strategizing, and risk mitigation, I also advise on regulatory law, contracts, estate planning, and several other fields. The law protects everyone. A judge who oversees criminal, civil, and Commissioners’ court matters must be well trained in the law. My opponent has no legal training.

I am active in charitable groups, a devout Christian, and am currently the parliamentarian for the Kerr County Republican Party Executive Committee.

When I am not campaigning, I enjoy golfing, horseback riding, hiking, shotgun sports, and wood working. My current book recommendation is "Reminiscences of my Youth, and other Catastrophes" by Merrill Doyle.
  • Respect the people. The County Judge must serve all the people in the county, while maintaining the values and promises of the people that elected him. As County Judge my top priority is to listen to and serve the people.

The other side of the respect coin is accountability. Elected officials must respect the will of the people, be gracious when grievances are presented, and tenacious when called to the defense our citizens. All elected officials serve at the will and pleasure of the citizens.

I want to empower a strong Republican Party that can find, support, and endorse challengers when elected official fall short of their promises, obligations, or public trust. All politicians are replaceable; we must lead with humility.
  • Maintain a balanced the budget. Taxes are not revenue. It is your money, not Kerr money. I want taxpayers to keep as much of their money as possible. The only way to reduce taxes is to reduce the budget. The County Judge is the elected official charged with proposing the budget. Currently, our county uses Incremental Budgeting, wherein last year’s budget is the baseline for this year’s budget plus whatever else is requested. This only grows government. We need to switch to Target Based budgeting which forces departments to prioritize spending and allows easier comparisons between departmental wish lists. We should not be growing government faster than inflation coupled with population growth.
  • Careful planning. Our county faces many current, future, and growth-related issues. One example is water. Many county residents experience water restrictions. As our population increases, the need for water only increases. Rather than mandating less water usage, we should create plans to grow production and storage of water, via strategic wells and reservoirs. The Trinity aquifer is the size of a Great Lake; strategically placed wells can increase water production without affecting current wells. The county also has abandoned strip mines. With planning, and grant funding, these could be turned into lakes. This would increase our water capacity and help with flood diversion. Solutions are better than the status quo.
I am passionate about the rule of law, protecting rights, and small government. When government grows liberty shrinks.

Liberals believe our society is fundamentally flawed, but utopia exists; sacrificing our rights, property, or independent agency are all justified to build a better future.

Conservatives believe our society is good but can be made better; with a careful eye to our history, traditions, and religion, we can plan for change in a way that doesn't sacrifice the good that we have now.

Our government must respect the will of the people, their traditions, and their religion. One of the greatest American achievements is the concept of inalienable rights; could God given rights exist without a belief in God?
