Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Noteworthy events
Campaign finance violation
In April 2015, the state Campaign Spending Commission asked the attorney general's office to investigate state Rep. James Tokioka, former state Rep. Richard Fale (R) and state Rep. Angus McKelvey (D) for failing to file campaign finance reports. The commission found that all three lawmakers collected campaign contributions but did not report them.[14]
On August 31, 2015, Tokioka pleaded no contest to one count of failing to file a complete campaign report. As part of his plea deal with the state, Tokioka was ordered to pay $1,000 to the Crime Victim Compensation Fund. He also had to publish an apology letter to his Facebook page.[15] In his original campaign report on July 10, 2015, Tokioka reported no campaign contributions from January 1 to June 30, 2014. He first amended the report on July 28, 2015, and reported $26,275 in contributions. After amending the report three more times, Tokioka reported $27,489 in contributions during that period.[16]
