Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Zumwalt's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • U.S. – Israeli Relations: Thanks in large part to the tireless advocacy of millions of pro-Israel Americans, there has long been broad bipartisan consensus on Capitol Hill and around the country that the United States must maintain and strengthen our bonds with Israel. However, there are many outside the United States and even some here at home that are now trying to subvert this bipartisan consensus in a dangerous attempt to delegitimize the State of Israel. In order to counter these misguided voices, we must have strong leaders in Washington that understand the security situation in Israel. I have sat down with the Israelis, I have sat down with the Palestinian Authority, and the contrast could not be starker.
  • Veterans: The VA is broken and now we have a choice: we can stand with our nation’s veterans to ensure they get the care and benefits they have earned, or we can protect incompetent and corrupt federal bureaucrats. For me, the choice is clear. In Washington, I will continue the work of House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller to fix the VA. We’ve got to fire bad employees and make VA transparent and accountable. Anything less is unacceptable.
  • Immigration: First and foremost, immigration is a critical national security issue. ISIS has not only vowed to attack us on U.S. soil, but has already succeeded in doing so. At what point did loss of American life on U.S. soil become acceptable? Illegal immigration stands as one of the most pressing issues of our time, and given the Obama Administration’s horrendous and unconstitutional immigration policy, it is no surprise that the American people don’t trust the federal government when it comes to immigration.
  • Economy & Opportunity: Growing up, my mom worked two jobs so that our family could get ahead. In the fast-growing Reagan economy, her hard work meant that she was able to buy a house and pave the way for my sister and me to go to college and contribute to our country. But in today’s Obama economy, people in Northwest Florida are working harder without getting ahead. That’s why when I get to Washington I will fight for working families and small businesses by cutting taxes and slashing regulatory red tape.
  • National Security: Military service is deeply rooted in my family and in our Northwest Florida community. I took an oath to defend the Constitution as a Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, and I’m running for Congress because I will not stand idly by as our freedoms are challenged by foreign foes and our Constitution is eroded by self-interested politicians at home.
